Hiring a PI

How to choose

A. Find a private investigator in the desired area of investigation. This will cut down on travel time, thus letting your money go farther. Hiring a PI that is familiar with the area usually is a positive. Be careful of small towns where everybody knows everybody. Make sure you ask the PI if everything will be kept confidential.

B. When contacting the PI to discuss the case make sure you ask them if they will be performing the actual investigation. Some PI firms when they get busy or are not in the area of the investigation will sub-contract out their work.

C. Ask if they are licensed in that state, bonded and insured.

D. Ask if they are members of any associations.

E. Ask for references.
